Extra Solos This Weekend!

I’ve been busy working on an extra batch of Solos this weekend.   I’m not 100% sure what time they will be ready, but it will probably be late this evening (Saturday).  Maybe I’ll list them very late for stitchers out of the US.  Any thoughts?  Anyone itching for Solos?

This batch is all 13″x18″ size and includes 14ct Aida, some 28 and 32ct lugana opal, 32ct belfast opal, and 36ct linen.

Most of the colors are bright/deep colors – purples/blues, deep pinks/corals, etc.

Silkweaver Showcase Winners….

To be announced this weekend…

We are rounding up our final bits of judging today.  Assuming there are no ties that need to be resolved, we’ll have the winners posted by Sunday evening (US time).  The judges are doing an excellent job.  They have really had a tough task to choose winners among so many fabulous entries!

Also, we’ll plan to release the finalist pages tomorrow (Saturday!).

Stay tuned!

Exciting Surprise Coming Tomorrow!

This week’s Color of the Week will be one that you will not want to miss.  For a limited time, July 21 through 27, we are going to bring back one of our most popular discontinued colors. And, what’s more, it will be at the usual color of the week discounted price. Can you guess which color it will be?

If anyone leaves a comment and get this correctly, I will confirm it.

You’ll certainly not want to miss it. :-)

Frequent question – Solos

I thought I would start a new category of posts about some of the most frequent questions that stitchers email about. Some you may have wondered about before, and some you may never have given a thought to. :)

One to the most frequent questions I see:

Question: I saw a solo that I really wanted, but it had sold out before I got to it. Can you make me another?

Silkweaver Sale! Coming Soon!

Coming this weekend! Get ready!

Wow – it’s hard to believe, but yes, it’s been 10 years that Silkweaver has been bringing you cross stitch fabrics – both hand dyed and standard, along with a few other items here and there. :-) We really wouldn’t still here if it weren’t for our fabulous customers! So, get ready……

We’ll be having a huge sale June 6-9. I’ll leave the specifics for later in the week, but you won’t want to miss this! Join us….. Silkweaver Fabrics website.

Magic Juice – what kind of name is that?

Naming new colors is always something that is a fun thing to do and quite honestly, can be difficult sometimes.  We have to be careful about trademarks, other manufacturers’ names, and making sure the name won’t give an impression of some other type of color.  For example, I was recently talking with someone about “Scattered Leaves” and he told me that when he saw the fabric, he was surprised, as he had envisioned it as being fall-type colors.  However, we came up with this name because it reminded us of green leaves being scattered about on the ground.

Peach Orchard was named such because of the mixing of peach tones and dark leafy greens, although another idea for this one was Pumpkin Patch.

Occasionally, we have “Name That Color” contests, and those are always great- stitchers have great imaginations!  Some of our colors such as Romantic Interlude and Jungle Boogie came about from these such naming contests.

But this time, we want to have a reverse ‘Name that Color’ contest of sorts!  :)    We want to see if YOU can figure out why we named Magic Juice what we did?  This color never even had any other names considered – we saw it and we KNEW this name was perfect!  So, what do you think?  Leave us a comment here or drop us a note through our Contact Form on the Silkweaver website.  We’ll take entries for a while.  If no one has come up with the answer in about a week, maybe we’ll post a hint or two.    And before you go running off to Urban Dictionary, I’ll go ahead and tell you that no, we weren’t drinking anything when we made this color!  :)

If there is more than one correct guess, we’ll pick one at random.  The winner will receive a FREE fat quarter of Magic Juice fabric!

Solo Survey Results

First of all, we wanted to send out a huge thanks to those that completed our Solo survey! We really appreciate your input.

It seems that the biggest issue, by far, was the lack of availability and that many of the Solos have sold out in just a few minutes. I want to take a few minutes to address some of your comments. (The survey results are sent to us as a whole, not by user, so we don’t know who actually made which comments.)

Here is a tip! With our shopping cart, once a person puts an item in their cart, you will receive the ’sold out’ message if you try to purchase that one. However, many times, the shopper will empty their cart or change their mind and that item will become available again at a later time. So it never hurts to try again in a while. Now, if that person closes their browser or leaves the site without emptying their cart, those items will stay ‘in limbo’ for about 4 hours, when the system will release them back to inventory. Because of this, some solos will again become available about 4 1/2 hours after the listing time. It’s worth a try to check back later that day!

One comment that was made in the survey several times was “I wish you would make more than one of each”. Because of the way we make the Solos, each one is unique. If we make, say 4 at once, then the scan that you see wouldn’t be that actual fabric. Sometimes, there may be just a small amount of dye left from a current batch, and instead of wasting that, we’ll save it for a solo batch and there may only be enough for one Solo. There are some other issues as well, but that’s the main answer to why we don’t make more than one.

The other most often mentioned comment was about putting the Solos on at a different time. Occasionally, we do have a 2nd batch in a week and we try to put it on at an alternate time. We’ve decided to try to do that more often in the future and here’s where we need your help. We’d like you to tell us what is a good alternate time!

Please post a comment to this post letting us know when YOU would like to see Solos listed.  Just think if it were all up to you – what would be the absolute best time? :-)

I’ve included a Time Zone Calculator below if needed.  Please use “Central” time Zone when stating your preference, or something in relation to our usual listing time.   (Example:  the usual time solos are listed is Noon Central time, so you can either say “about 5pm Central” or “about 5 hours later than usual”.)

Do you like having advance notice?  Or do you prefer the preview email to arrive after the Solos are listed?  If you have a strong preference, let us know that too!

Time Zone Calculator

To use this calculator, choose “use the following date and time”, enter the time you wish to convert (your time zone) and then choose your zone in the first “TIME ZONE” box.  In the 2nd box, choose US/Central, and then click convert.
